Blue Based Red Lipstick

While blue lipstick on its own is not packing a great deal of popularity, the blue pigment on the other hand, plays a major part making another product one of the most prestigious and desired ones: blue based red lipstick. That's right ! It's a distinct hue of red and as a matter of fact is among the sexiest out there.

Blue based red lipstick, beside the obvious use of the blue pigment, has no trace of other base pigments in it whatsoever. Exactly ! Red lipstick can be based on orange, pink, purple, brown or in our case blue color. The absence of any other pigment, is what gives the distinct feel of "cold red", or often referred to as "cherry red" .

It's interesting because this distinction of what base is used for the red lipstick, dictates the skin tone to be used on.

Blue-based color will give cool undertone, while an orange-based nuance will spark warm undertone. Normally you can use whichever model you like, yet each one of them only fits best with the matching skin tone.

Namely, the red lipstick with blue undertone, is highly recommended for a white-pale or cool-toned skin. Think Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Hurley, Courtney Cox, Meg Ryan, Milla Jovovich or Gwen Stefani. And recommended is not just an empty word. Blue based red lipstick on a cool toned skin has the amazing capability of making the teeth to show their absolute whitest. Red lips, white teeth, that makes a sexy combination.

Choosing the right red for your skin tone, can get a bit challenging at times. You can pull it off after some trial and error. But you'll always get the best match using blue based red lipstick on a cool toned skin.

Some of the most famous and well-appreciated red lipsticks based on blue color, are:

L'Oreal Infallible Le Rouge in Ravishing Red
MAC Red Lipstick in Red, Russian or Ruby Woo
Chanel Rouge Allure in Lover or Coco in Rivoli
NARS Lipstick in Fire Down Below

And for the budget versions we have these:

Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red
Maybelline Lipstick in Red Revival

Even if you're aiming for an expensive and prestigious one, you could try a red lipstick with blue undertones from the drugstore first. If your going to test things out, at least do it cheaper. Getting the right blue based red lipstick for you, will worth the effort.

Thank you for this article. I just bought the Revlon Matte in Really Red last night; I am wearing it today and I like it so far.

Do you know what brand of lipstick she's wearing in the picture?

Judging by the time that picture was taken (New York Fashion Week 2010) and the fact she was the image of Maybelline at the time, I would say the lipstick she's wearing is from the New Color Sensational Lipcolor in Red Revival.
